Relationships First.

Ed starts with the value that relationship is the thread that weaves our experience as humans. Kindness and compassion are at the core of effective relationships and are thus at the core of Ed's therapy, groupwork, and trainings and seminars.

Ed's many years in the children and families field of care have included individual and group work with youth of all ages. Families are critical in working with youth and Ed involves the family and/or other supports in treatment. And although he is especially gifted with kids, Ed prefers working with their parents and particularly enjoys couple therapy.

Ed has consulted in mental health, human service and business systems, and interpersonal and intrapersonal interactions. Ed challenges his clients and audience to develop an organized way of interpreting and viewing their world, leading to responsible, healthy development of self and relationships. He has given trainings on fear and operates self-management groups.

Over the years, Ed has fused his compassion with his passion for understanding our thinking to create a life management process called Conceptual Frameworks. Please visit his website to learn more about it--it's truly exciting!

As a presenter, Ed is called "real" and "compassionate" by the participants in his workshops and trainings. He involves his participants and gets to the level and needs of the people he's presenting to or working with. Trainings can include day-long or weekend retreats on such topics as self-awareness, personal development, organizational processes and interaction, board development, staff development, and supervision processes.

Ed is a State-Certified Child Mental Health Specialist. He received his graduate social work training at Denver University, where his treatment techniques were developed, and at Walla Walla College. The "ACSW" following his name stands for "Academy of Certified Social Workers," which is the national standard for advanced professional social work. Ed co-owns Palouse Counseling with Laurie Heikkenen and manages the clinical services.
